Don't be "Asian dude from Twitter"

I was pan frying some burgers in coconut oil. Creedence Clear Water Revival were busting out Born on the Bayou from my speakers. A dash of oil spat out of the pan and burnt me on the arm. And in that moment of (slightly moderate) pain an idea bubbled up into my consciousness.

Write a blog on “useful info guys” vs “interesting guys”.

I left the burgers to fend for themselves and quick-smart grabbed a pen and jotted down the thought in a notebook. I’m always paranoid that if I don’t write down the idea then I lose it.

So, what’s a “useful info guy?”

Well, perhaps what I wrote down in my my note is the best way to explain.

“Do the Asian dude from twitter. Compare to (Ben) Settle.”

Now, I think Mark AKA “the Asian dude from twitter” has useful info. It’s why I follow him. I’ve even written about him in an earlier blog.

But who is he?

I went through a lot more posts than I shared above. He runs an agency and that’s about all the personal details he shares.

He has loads of “useful info” but he’s not memorable.

To get those screenshots, I had to scroll through all the people I followed as I couldn’t even remember his name.

Compare…

I know that Ben Settle has invested in his local newspaper in Oregon. As in he became a part owner of the local rag. I know he did it to promote more freedom favouring political candidates in elections. And to take on the “most corrupt political machine in the country.”

I know this because it’s in his content.

It’s risky. It’ll turn people off. But it’s personal and it’s interesting.

And he’ll never just be “Asian dude from Twitter”.
